Driving Test

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

I passed my first driving test today, at 3.30pm, with three minor faults!! I’m so happy, and surprised. Now I am on the prowl for a cheap car so I can get away when I want to with out having to bribe my mum. And I can drive to see Jess when ever I want to! :D

Its been a good afternoon. Probably the best day I’ll have for like two months now.

Let’s have a reunion

Friday, March 31st, 2006

So I havn’t posted a blog on here for a while - I wanted to post one now so my guilt doesn’t wear off and I continue to post useless things here.

Perhaps that might be a reason for Reggles hooking up with the weblog. I met him (on myspace lol) a month or so ago quite randomly. Reggles is from Puerto Rico in the caribean and hopefully we’re still on for a road trip of some sort around the UK and north-west europe sometime next year! I havn’t even met the guy! But our web shennanigans are priceless.

I can’t even remember how long ago I last posted, and can’t really be bothered checking. Things have happened though. Got my January exam results back; full marks in a geography resit and then two Cs in two economic A2 modules! I got the scripts back yesterday to see what went wrong and if I should submit for remark. Apparently it was pretty much just crap… so I am still going ahead with 4 economic modules in the summer. Argh. A lot have pretty much already got an A which makes it worse.

Had a few parties recently. Week’s had an awesome massive party a few weeks ago for his 18th which was funky. Bryony had one last saturday which was also cool because Jess went! And tomorrow I am going to hers until Sunday :D Can’t wait. Then it’s only a few more days until easter holidays. And the weather seems to be getting good. How fun.

Booked my driving test on Tuesday, which will be at 2.30pm on 2nd May!

Web-side; developed and released version 2 of ClanSites for intheholecs.net. Spent a lot of time reworking and modifying the edux core code to suit the clan management system, which is also a interactive network for gamers! Still got some work to do, notably on improving the ability of theming and customisation.

adios.

Snow Day(s)

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Snow day - Chester RacecourseI should have posted this last week really, when it was Snow Day! In fact both Thursday and Friday were snow days off school because of the “bad” weather in Chester and North Wales. The post I did make (below) shows how much fun it was… a 4 day weekend almost felt like another half-term break :) It was really good! There are some photographs which I took last week whilst trapesing around Chester before we realised school was off.

On that point, I have developed a new oziz gallery which is really really nice. The core code is from Plogger and works nicely. From this I have made some ammendments and developed the style to fit in with the site.

Go here to check out the gallery and the photos from the snow day.

First Piercing

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Ear Piercing (rim)
It’s been an awesome day. Went to Liverpool to meet up with Jess and went to a place called the ‘Gostin Arcade’ or something. We found a piercing studio and after waiting an hour or so I got the top of my left ear pierced with a stud. It’s quite small but I love it :D It didn’t hurt too much either, pretty simple. Apart from in the wind outside afterwards.

I just took a picture of it using my webcam so the quality is a bit crap. The stud has to stay in for 3 months or so before I can change it and it is supposed to be washed 3 times a day for a month - don’t think that’s gonna happen really.

A weekend wasted is never a wasted weekend

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

School’s out! It’s half term right now, this being the first weekend after breaking up on Friday. Anyway last night I went to Abi’s 18th birthday party at the Mollington village hall. Incidentely I realised it’s where “Cowboy Joe” used to do his stuff and scare young children. It all started comming back to me. The party was pretty cool; there was a bar, a chocolate fountain and a live band - ‘The Stand Offs‘ which Andy P plays the drums in. They were good, especially with their cover of The Artic Monkeys (I bet that you look good on the dancefloor). Yeah, nice one guys.

Surprisingly I took full advantage of the bar and became possessed by Strongbow. Haha. Can’t believe I’m actually up now but some kid was screaming/crying outside somewhere and if anything will wake me up, that will for sure. It was a good night and it was cool seeing the people I should see a lot more of. Even if I did see them last week. And I will next week :)

This week I’m going to try and not drink too much so I can drink at the parties this (next?) weekend without dying. Tomorrow I am going to Liverpool to see Jess and have some fun like last year! Yey.

St. Valentine’s Day. Urgh.

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

It’s been an awesome day, which is ironic as most people I have spoken to today have been depressed because it’s St. Valentine’s day. What’s the deal with that? It’s only a day - did you think that people loved you every other day of the year? I got one nice message and it wasn’t from my parents :) I also gave one to a very special person - my school librarian. Except I didn’t give it to her directly, I was too shy. So I tactifully left it next to a holepunch. Skills. I didn’t leave a name. Because I don’t really want her to be my valentine. Just to let you know, people who leave a big ? after a message don’t actually want you, they just feel sorry for you. And if they do then they’re a dumbass anyway because there isn’t much point if they don’t know who it’s from, is there?!

I hope you’re confused now.

On Sunday night / yesturday I completed my latest venture - eduX! I’m so happy. It’s been BETA for months and we have been recoding the whole thing to be much more effcient and stable. There will, of course, be a few bugs to smoothen out as it gets a good beating by my school but it’s pretty much a stable/final release. We are going to keep on improving the functionality etc in new versions but after 6 months version 2 (stable) is complete :D Woo.

Andy’s party on Saturday was a bit insane. I got quite wasted and didn’t really sleep at all which still shows. It was awesome, and I’m glad my friends are all slowing becomming 18.

Half-term starts on Friday. Before then I have a gizillion essays and notes to write seeing as I was off loads recently. I won’t do them all. I’ve just realised no one will really give a shit about what I’m writing so I can’t be bothered to write any more.

“You get me, blad?”

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

It has been an interesting past 10 days or so, more than most of my winter weeks so far. At the start of February I was in Norfolk by the coast at a field centre for my Geography A2 course which requires some sort of investigation as one of the modules. It was unfantastically freezing almost the whole week; especially analysing sanddune succession for 4 hours right from the shoreline. We also did a CBD study of Norwich and a river study. It was pretty fun actually, even though we did write ups and the data analysis on top of a long day of fieldwork in the evenings.

Our group was in the centre with pretty much only Londoners of varying friendliness. We seemed to get on pretty well with one group of year 10s who had the typical “innit blad, dat buff man” slang which was awesome! I love it. Every night some kind of event would happen in our room, occasionally dueled with the other guys’ room down the corridor for occasional pillow-bashing victimisation :)

Our room had a radiator which was constantly on the highest possible temperature - a shock as you just come inside from the artic chill. It was even worse at night. There was a thermostat thing placed behind a window just so you couldn’t reach it. We were convinced we could get to it and turn the heat down so we prized the window open using some scissors to get to it. One of us goes to grab it and starts turning as the thing just comes off! It wasn’t actually connected to the frigging radiator!! So after all that we got a fan in our room since we couldn’t do anything to the radiator - well apart from cover it in duvets and spare mattresses.

All 5 of us ended up in one corner of the room to benefit from the fan without any ‘wastage’. I was the only one on a top bunk as the others were either on the floor or on the lower bunks. So I had some comprising to do to secure my breeze and ultimately some sleep.

I didn’t mean to turn that into some sort of you-really-had-to-be-there story. But I did so I’m not going to delete it now. Sorry.

Anyway that was a week ago. The past week has been alright. I have been really pushing on eduX to get to stable release, it’s really overdue from our original January release date. I can’t wait to complete it - it is a powerful beast with amazing potential! Yesterday I redesigned,(from an urge) the eduX homepage which looks a lot more appealing than before. The VLE system just needs some smoothing out to eradicate the constant bugs. Argh. Then we need to validate it, which hopefully James will sort out.

yesterday I was off school because I have (hopefully had) a really bad cold with a waterfall kind of nose which has been eroded by boxes of tissues. Tonight I am going to Andy’s 18th party which should be fun :) I need it.

Exams and things

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

The past week has been quite weird. Started on a high after the weekend then felt like the underside of a paving slab yesturday and now I’m back on a high. It’s strange how feelings change so quickly and so much.

One explanation may be the economics exam I had today - OCR Transport Economics 2885 module. It was at 2pm so I had the morning “off”, of which I revised for about half an hour, which was when I was not talking, playing chess or having lunch. In any case, the 1 1/2 hour exam went really well (I think), the questions were nice and friendly :) I have one more this term, on Monday, which is the synoptic paper. Not getting too excited about that. I still have the summer.

I think I am going to take a gap year next year because I don’t see the same opportunity being presented to me until I have white hair. My dad has convinced me it’d be really worth it. During the year I am planning on setting up a business based upon a few ideas I have, which will hopefully involve travelling abroad to China, America and places in between! As long as I plan it out, and don’t waste it, it should be awesome. This summer is going to be pretty cool already. Jay and I are going to track down Smygel (Dan) in Norway for a week. Then my family is planning on going sailing again around the Seychelles or Croatia.

Look at me getting all long-sighted.
There’s a few hurdles to over-come first.

Tomorrow I have the day off school, so I might be going to Jay’s to help build his computer is the parts actually come from ebuyer, lol. In any case we’re going to the snooker hall to play a few frames before we start the 16-player tournament we’ve set up. Should be fun!

Then Will is having his 18th this weekend and we’re going paintballing at S.W.A.T in the Wirral. At 8.45am! For a Saturday that is crazy. Should be fun though, havn’t been since my 15th birthday or something.

Oh, last thing. I’ve put together a page with my computer specs on for those who keep asking!

The annual update

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

It has been almost a year since I last made an update so with a few hints from a few people I figured I’d bring my personal website up to scratch. Also I get really bored at this time of year. It’s quite depressing coming back to a routine after a long christmas break. And exams, but no revision as of yet for the A2 modules I have comming up at the end of this month.

(I wonder if anyone is actually reading this)

Anyway, it’s been a really busy few months. In July/August I took a trip over to China on a month-long expedition from Beijing to Hong Kong. That was awesome! I still have a load of pictures, like 300 or something, but I’ll have to wait till I’m really really bored to sort them out and put them up on this site along with the others. I will (probably) do it though.

Since september I have:

  • Been to Malta,
  • Started a new web/business project - eduX,
  • Had my 18th and a big house party to go with it :)
  • Started taking driving lessons,
  • Built my own pro PC system (stats to come!),
  • Applied to universites (via UCAS) for Geography,
  • Received offers from Durham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Royal Holloway,
  • Had interviews at Oxford university (Keble college) and stayed over for 2 nights,
  • Got rejected from Oxford xD
  • Started playing Battlefield 2 24/7,
  • Joined local snooker club,
  • Had an average Christmas and New year,
  • Passed my driving theory test :)
  • Been generally quite bored.

More to come soon, I promise.

The word is Uber

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

One exam is over, I’m happy to say. I handed it my art exam on Wednesday complete with presented prep. Just the rest of the year’s work to complete and present now! On that same day my Young Enterprise company, UBER, was invited to the YE Chester Finals to give a presentation and to be apart of the awards. And awards we were a part of! After being entertained by three or four other companies we finally gave our presentation with a hint of apprehension.

Ten minutes later we’ve picked up an award for best presentation. A few more pass by - on to the Best Company award. We find ourselves up on the stage for a second time complete with flashing cameras. Uber won the Best Company award for Chester. So now we are into the regional finals against three other companies.

Great. I had my mind made up that Wednesday would be the last day of Uber and I could forget about the commitments and concentrate on perhaps starting slightly more important things. 4th May we are going to Warrington to do the same again, just with the added pressure and cause to step up our game. Heh, it will be worth it because Uber will reign over the county and district for the best company, I have no doubt. But then again, if we do, we will then have to take a massive step to present in London in the national finals - I hope we arn’t that good! Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel a sense of acheivement.
