MySpace Resource Site

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

So, I felt like it. oziz has been getting some steady traffic to this page over the last couple of weeks so I thought I’d actually come up with a full-on myspace resource site.

I know there’s a ton of these already out there, but there’s also a whole ton of traffic coming in to these sites so I aim to capitalise on it further. I’ll be working on it over the summer to add my own original layouts and code on the site so keep up with it. For now, go ahead and use everything it’s got!

Moving to WordPress

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Blogger has become extremely slow recently which has prevented me at times from making an entry since it relies on Blogger.com as opposed to my own website hosting. It also seems past its sell-by-date with regards to the Web 2.0 revolution. I’m not a fan of the inflexible template system and how I have to make changes using Blogger as opposed to FTPing files which I have worked on offline. The other week I made some heavy changes via Blogger and I hit ‘Publish’ to save the template and then the connection was lost. Went back to the template after an age and half the template was missing. Honestly. I expect better! I should of stuck to my old ways of self-coding and using my own CMS systems, but curiosity (and laziness) got the better of me.

So I’ll be moving to WordPress soon, which may mean some disruption of files and links but it’ll be worth it.

Domain Downtime

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

If you had been trying to pay attention to this website over the past week I am sorry for it not being available. More specifically, the domain name [oziz.co.uk] was suspended… It expired right at the end of January and I notified my current webhost to renew the domain on my behalf. However since I had registered it with another company back in 2002 my host doesn’t have the control to modify or control the domain. So I got in contact with the original registrant who then denied they still held the domain. This left me in a bit of a pickle. I needed to renew oziz.co.uk however it seemed I had no holder to renew it through. This led me to contacting nominet (.uk domain watchdog) directly asking what my options were for renewal. They offered to transfer the domain over to another holder at a fee of £15. Hmm.. that put me off initially so I continued on my quest.

The whois for my domain name produced a tag and a URL for the actual holders of the domain name, I did not have knowledge of them because my registrant used these on my behalf. I check the URL but it was just a blank page. Then I got hold of an e-mail address yesterday so I contacted the company. I got a quick reply and within an hour I had transfered the domain name to the holder of all my other domain names. From there I was able to renew it and now it’s all back and running smooth :D

I’m sure you really cared about all that, but there you go.

I am currently working on the Gallery, especially the China album as I am writing up the diary I wrote along with the photographs. It’s going to take a while though…

I’ll make another post soon on what I’ve been up to since the last blog. Yours truely.

Redefine

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

Uh oh. oz iz back, well at least returned back to his cyber birth place… One difference this time though, I’ve fallen for the Blogging craze phase meaning this website has been effectively hijacked by blogger.com with my old website cast in the shadow. You see I got bored of the old. Bored of writing to myself about things - I was on an isolated e-island as oziz.co.uk then was with no real connection to community. I did try, many times to create my own web community within oziz, but in the end I have come crawling back on my knees to the heart of the blog leaving my stubbornness behind.

So in farewell to index.php and in celebration of index.html I bring to you the lyrics of Redefine [WMA]- Incubus. I think this song was destined for this day and this… blog.

Imagine your brain as a
canister filled with ink
yeah, now think of your body
as the pen where the ink resides
Fuse the two; KAPOW!
What are you now?
You’re the human magic marker, won’t you
please surprise my eyes?
It’s in your nature,
you can paint whatever picture
you like no matter what
Ted Koppel says on channel 4 tonight
So modify this third rock from the sun
by painting myriads of pictures
with the colors of one
I’m sick of painting in black and white
my pen is dry, now I’m uptight
So sick of limiting myself
to fit your definition
Picture the scene, where whatever you thought,
would, in the blink of an eye,
manifest and become illustrated
You’d be sure man that every
line drawn reflected a life that you loved
not an existence that you hated
So, must we demonstrate that
we can’t get it straight?
We’ve painted a picture,
now we’re drowning in paint
Lets figure out what the fuck it’s about
before the picture we painted
chews us up and spits us out
I’m sick of painting in black and white
my pen is dry, now I’m uptight
So sick of limiting myself
to fit your definition
